Trees that grew wild hundreds or thousands of years ago are buried underground or in the sea or lakes by volcanic eruptions and other events, and when they are excavated, they are called "Jindai cedars." Jindai cedars have a deep color that has been cultivated underground for many years, and are rich in tastefulness and elegance, so they have been revered as a valuable material since ancient times, and are often used for teahouse materials. In addition to cedar, there are also keyaki, hinoki, and tamo. The Jindai cedars we use were excavated in Nikaho-cho, Yuri-gun, Akita Prefecture, at the foot of Mt. Chokai, which straddles Akita Prefecture and Yamagata Prefecture.
